HOT WATER EXTRACTION
Steam cleaning, as it is most commonly known as is more accurately described as hot water extraction. Water converts to steam at 375ยบ, which is not accomplished during the cleaning process. For this reason the description is more accurately, hot water extraction. It is the finding of many independent experts and laboratories that it removes the greatest amount of soils as compared to other methods.

A hot water solution containing a cleaning agent is injected into the carpet face and then it is followed with a vacuum system that extracts the soil and spent solution. But, no hot water extraction system is complete without a preconditioning step. The preconditioning involves a chemical designed to emulsify, soaponify, and suspend the oxidized oils and soils until they can be extracted with the equipment. This chemical solution requires time to work, this is referred to as dwell. Operator expertise and training cannot be over emphasized. Even more important than quality equipment is a quality technician.

All of these parts are required to properly clean carpet.
First Heat, hot cleaning solution and hot water are used in the extraction process.
Second Cleaning solution. Preconditioning solution is applied with device called a hydro-force.
Third Dwell is the time given for the preconditioning solution to work before agitation and extraction.
Fourth Agitation of the cleaning solution. With the p.s.i. of the water from 300to 500 p.s.i. in the extraction process, this is considered to be good agitation of the solution.
(There are times when you have a heavy soiled area that requires extra agitation or pre-scrubbing)
